How was Feroz Khan ‘responsible’ for Kaate nahi kat te song from Mr India

How can anybody ever forget this evergreen song from 1987-released super hit film, Shekhar Kapur-directed Mr. India? Sensuality got a whole new meaning with Sridevi’s sexy dance moves in this beautiful number. Draped in a wet blue clingy chiffon sari, dancing to the beats of Kaate Nahi Kat Te, she actually stole a million hearts. Despite several contemporary heroines shedding clothes, Sridevi's seductive act romancing an invisible hero, Anil Kapoor, remains unparalleled to date.

And the song has an interesting origin. In Feroz Khan’s 1986 film, Jaanbaaz,Sridevi looked astonishingly beautiful, glamorous and sexy. She featured in the song Har kisiko nahi milta which became an instant chart-buster. Since everybody, including Mr India’s producer Boney Kapoor was all praise for Feroz Khan for the look he gave to Sridevi, Shekhar Kapur self admittedly couldn’t digest this. 'No director would like people praising another director in front of him,’ said Shekhar with a smile. And thus, he got greatly motivated to create Kate nahi kat te song along with the team, including writer-lyricist, Javed Akhtar and music composers Laxmikant Pyarelal. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Incidentally, it was recently revealed by Boney that Sridevi had very high fever during the shoot of the song, which was shot in rains for several days. And the legendary actress added, "I never enjoyed doing rain sequences in films. In fact, while listening to any script and story those days, I would always pray that there should be no rain sequence in the film, but Kate nahi kat te was special and remains one of my favourites till date."
